The Church

Establishment of the Church

The Church was predicted by the prophets of the Old Testament (Isa. 2:2,3; Dan. 2:44) as well as by Jesus, Himself. (Mat. 16:18) Jesus told His apostles that they would receive power from the Holy Spirit to guide them into the truth. (Luke 24:49; John 16:13; Acts 1:4-8) The apostles received this power on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2), and the church was formed by those who believed the message, repented, and were baptized (Acts 2:38,41,47).

Matthew 16:18,19 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.
John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Acts 2:38,41,47 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.... Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.......And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.
