The Scriptures say the gospel includes the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Cor. 15:1-4). The Bible also says that the gospel is the power to save, and those who do not obey it will suffer eternal punishment. Just as Jesus died, was buried, and was resurrected, we too should die (repent), be buried (baptism), and be resurrected (raised to walk a new life as a Christian) by obeying the gospel.

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which
also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are
saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you -- unless you believed
in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also
received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to
the Scriptures, |

buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through

because of the hope which is laid up for you in heaven, of which you heard

every creature under heaven, of which I, Paul, became a minister. |
