"Actions & Eternal Destiny"

Larry Ray Hafley

Ed McCutcheon is "Pastor" of a Primitive Baptist Church in Thaxton, MS. He believes God elected and selected who should be saved and who should be lost and that one's "eternal destiny" does not depend upon any conditions or acts of obedience on man's part, not even faith! When he says that salvation "is solely by God's grace," he means it! Thus, in his bulletin, GLAD TIDINGS, (which advertises itself as a proponent of "PURE NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIANITY"), Elder McCutcheon said:

"Most, today, really believe that their eternal destiny depends upon their actions in this world....They believe that by their actions they can either gain heaven, or be cast into hell....Life in the world to come is solely by God's grace" (March, 1997). Compare and contrast the word of McCutcheon with "the word of Christ":

"For the Son of man shall come in the glory of his Father with his angels; and then he shall reward every man according to his works" (Matt. 16:27).

"(God) will render to every man according to his deeds" (Rom. 2:6-11).

"For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad" (2 Cor. 10:5).

"Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting" (Gal. 6:7, 8).

After comparing what Mr. McCutcheon said with what the Bible says, do you see why there is still a need plain Bible preaching and teaching (1 Tim. 4:6, 16; 2 Jn. 9)? When men parade their views under the guise of presenting "PURE NEW TESTAMENT CHRISTIANITY," and yet so pervert the truth, how can we afford to be silent (Isa. 62:6)?
