"...But He Can't Hide"

Larry Ray Hafley

When Joe Louis, the heavyweight boxing champion of a past generation, was told that an opponent planned to dodge and dance away from him in an upcoming fight, the legendary "Brown Bomber" replied, "He can run, but he can't hide."

It is true of us and of our duties and responsibilities. We can run, but we cannot hide. It is true of our sins and guilt before God. We can run, but we cannot hide.

Adam and Eve tried it (Gen. 3:8). Cain, too (Gen. 4:9). Gehazi, Elisha's servant, attempted to "hide" his sin (2 Kgs. 5:20-27). David did the same (2 Sam. 11; Psa. 32; 51). Jonah fled from Jehovah's summons to deliver a sermon (Jon. 4:2). They all failed. They could run, but they could not hide.

My duty. My sins. My guilt. Your responsibilities. Your sins. Your guilt. Death and the judgment. We can run, but we cannot hide. "Be sure your sin will find you out" (Num 32:23)!
